Luckily for me and the rest of the family I don't have to travel very often for work, usually just twice a year, but when I do it is usually for at least a week to 10 days. This requires a lot of planning on my part, and I'm not talking about packing, or booking hotels and airline tickets.
*Start prepping the kids for my absence and build up all the quality time that they are going to have with Daddy. Then, listen to crying and whining and deal with multiple chokes around the neck as Olivia refuses to let go of me until I start to pass out.
*Clean the house so that there is a standard example for my return. :)
*Do all the laundry so I can set out the appropriate clothes for Jake's activities throughout the week.
*Make a list for each day of where each child needs to go and when and what they need to take.
Olivia can buy her lunch everyday at summer pre-school.
Jake likes PB&J, pringles and a rice crispy treat everyday in his lunch for camp.
Jake has soccer tryouts on Tues, BBall practice on Weds, and gymnastics on Thurs, and BBall game on Sat.
*Dave thinks he needs to take a half-day from work every day to get the kids to where they need to be. HA! HA! HA! This makes me laugh. Obviously I work all day and still get them their dinner and where they need to be every week...... I think I talked him down to leaving just an hour early.
*I'm seriously stressed out about Olivia looking like a rag-a-muffin all week. It is going to be in the upper 90's all week and she needs her hair put up. I had to give Dave a crash course in brushing her long hair and putting it up in a pony-tail. It wasn't pretty.....I know he will do his best, but.....
*I didn't make it to the grocery store for a full re-stock, and for some reason last night, they hit McDonald's AND Lion's Choice....so I'm concerned that the last nutritious meal that will be eaten this week will be the one that I fed them which was the lunch before I left.
*Finally, the worst part of me traveling? Not being with these guys......
*****Maybe I DON'T miss the middle one in the picture so much right now.*** I have been gone just over 24 hours and look at what he has purchased.
* I can't reign in the hubby's spending when I am ~1,200 miles away from home. That is a big down-side to me traveling!
I'm so random.

Totally know how you feel! When I leave for a buisness trip or anytime I'm without the kiddo, I feel like I have to prep for a monumental occasion. I'm lucky if hubby doesn't feed her Wendy's every night! And the hair! My God no matter how many times I show him how to do a pony tail it never fails she looks like an extra from Lord of the Flies!! I have just got to the point of telling daycare I'm out of town could you make sure to comb her hair and put a pony in it? lol good luck and I hope you have a good trip!
Well try to enjoy your time away-having you gone will remind them of how much you do and how hard your job as 'mom' really is. :)
As for the hair - yeah, they try, just doesn't really work out for them....hahaha

OK, coming from a guy here:
When my oldest was very young, it would strike fear in my heart when my wife left, but for only ONE reason:
CLOTHES.
For the life of me, I could NEVER find all those cute matching outfits. Just. Couldn't. Do. It.
I crossed my fingers and looked for jeans and t-shirts, or other shirt that matched.
Hair originally scared me, as my daughter had long, thick hair. Ponytails, I could do, as I used to have one (yep, one of those guys), but braids scared the boots off me.
Finally, I learned how to do it like I learn everything else - I read. In this case, I found a website explaining braids, and then I was set! I could braid!
So, that left clothes. Not too bad, right?
I always took the kids everywhere with me - band practice, concerts, etc. anyway, so not too much change. Also, my wife is more the spender in my family, but on small impulse items, not BIG things.
Is that the Heineken mini kegerator!?!?!?
I never really go away without the kids but I know what you mean about the planning....
Haha! My dear Husb can hardly manage picking them up from school ONE day a week! Good thing I don't have to travel for work.
Wow! I tend to be the one who goes shopping when S is away :) Try to relax and enjoy sleeping in your own bed. They might not have the most nutritional week and Olivia's hair might be in knots when you get back but at least you will be recharged (hopefully) and ready to see them again :)
I left S for 3 days once and it took 5 days to plan it all out for him. He then had the nerve to say that being an at home parent wasn't as crazy as I make it out to be! Perhaps it wouldn't be so crazy if I had someone write out everything I was to do, lay out all of the clothes, stock the fridge with food etc. Got to love men :)
I'm pretty damn lucky. First, I no longer have to travel and/or be away from my family. Ever again. But, I paid for it while in the Navy, and because I would be gone for months and months at a time, hubs is pretty damn self-sufficient in the whole home/child care arena.
Oh, oh, oh - but damn, your hubs did well in his purchase though, don't ya think!?! I'd have been pleased to come home to that! :-)
