Jake's Journal

We recently had Jake's parent/teacher conference and his teacher gave us some of his writings out of his journal. With his permission, I'm going to share a writing a week.

**Keep in mind, he is 6 years old and in first grade. I am going to transcribe it exactly as he has written it.

This is my favorite one out of the bunch. Not because it is lovey dovey, or sings our praises as parents....it is quite the opposite and it cracks me up!

I feel mad when the wole family nees to go to a store and I don't want to. They said I need to go. They do not vote. My mom and my dad and my sisder are happy but I am mad. They said it is fun. I said it is boring. It is the boringist I ever done.

Great writing! He has a pal in my son, 10 yrs old today, who NEVER, EVER wants to go to store with us.

hahahaha :) welcome to real life, kid! this reminds me of a stage i went through when i was 7. i always went to stay with my grandparents in south dakota in the summertime, and my parents lived in oklahoma. one summer, i decided that i wanted to stay in SD for the school year. i wrote my parents a very long letter stating that i should be able to stay there for the school year because, 'i am free, and these are my rights as an american.' haha. my mom still has the letter and it cracks me up everytime i read it.

At least there is only one dissenter. My boys are both in agreement on the boringistness of it all. : )

I love it! Poor kid, already feeling the injustice of having to compromise. lol

He sounds just like my boys. Can you believe the horrible things we subject our children to?

Great job! And very good writing skills for a six year old!

Wow, he could be the spokesperson for his generation. I don't know a single 6-year old who thinks going to a store is fun!

That completely transported me back to my own childhood journal. Luckily it's no longer around because I'm sure it'd be 95% complaining.

I love that the teacher has them writing! Love the entry too; Gannon does not write yet but will say "mom I am angry that brother blah blah..." I love the way the young ones express themselves.

Adorable! It's pretty common for things they are 'angry' about come out in these early writings - it shows they are learning control over their feelings - in that rather than throwing a tantrum about it, they journal about it. YAY for Jake!

A few months ago I found an old journal of Parker's - too funny to read some of the entries. I think their early writings are more precious than their drawings and clay figures
