The Update Show!

Can I just say that I had the best time at bloggers gathering on Saturday night? The Atomic Cowboy were great hosts and the atmosphere was AWESOME! The company wasn't too bad either! :) Unfortunately I was too lazy to get my camera out and take my own pictures but Rebecca and Raquita were picture taking fools! Click on over to their sites to see everyone, including Dave! I even let him join me this time, and he had fun! Like there was any way he could NOT have fun with all of us.

Thanks for everyone’s advice concerning our shower wars….I’ve decided that on the days that I physically go into work, it will be worth sacrificing my precious sleep to get up early just to have my shower time be my own. The other two days of the week, I will “sleep in” and she can either shower with Dave or I’ll just suck it up and deal. On the weekends, all bets are off unless otherwise invited. We did have an interesting occurrence this weekend…..we went to Jake’s school carnival on Friday night and Olivia got a lovely flower tattoo on her arm and a butterfly painted on her face. After breakfast I tried to sneak back upstairs for my shower and Olivia immediately stated that she was going to shower with me. But then she stopped.

Oh, no mommy! I can’t shower with you. My face paint will come off!
Oh bummer. You’re right. We don’t want that! Ok, well I’ll see you in a few minutes…… I actually got to shave my legs!!

Looks like I might need to invest in some face paint huh?

I was so please to see that most of you were on my side when it came to whether or not you turned the water off while you brushed your teeth. That’s what the poll was really all about you know….to prove to my hubby once again that I am right. He really should be used to it by now. Hee hee.

54% (26) of you said that YES you do turn off the water while you brush your teeth.
24% (12) of you said that NO you do not turn off the water. Shame on you! ☺
14% (7) of you said that you turn off the water sometimes.
8% (4) of you said you did something else?????
I will say that while I am rinsing my brush and mouth, the water is of course on, so maybe this is the “something else” category those 4 people were thinking about?

Remember my niece who is the youngest level 10 gymnast in the state of MO? Well, she placed 1st in State and went to the regional competition up in South Dakota this weekend where she qualified to go to Nationals. This will be her second year in row going to Nationals, but we very surprised that she qualified this year, since this is her first year as a level 10. Maybe she will change her mind and try to go for the Olympic team in 2012 afterall…..

Concerning Jake going to Awana, with the other family or with us taking him, and/or staying with him the entire time. We decided that we just weren’t ready for him to go to anywhere without us knowing the people running it/knowing the family taking him etc very well. We were both uneasy about the situation, we didn’t know anyone there, and we had no intentions on joining that particular church so, we thought it was best for him to not go anymore. We talked to him about it and he was ok with it. Dave and I are in the process of trying to figure out how we want to present religion to our children in a way that reflects our beliefs and hope to find a church where we don’t feel judged and forced to act differently when we are there. I don’t want to have to hide the fact that I am a scientist and believe that what I do for a living is a GOOD thing for human kind, that my husband and I enjoy a drink or two when we want one, and yes that I am more liberal than conservative in the political realm. There are a lot of things about organized religion that we don’t agree with, but we both BELIEVE in the fundamental principals, so it is a hard balance to find in a church. I have a few places that I want to check out, but if there is anyone here in STL that have any suggestions let me know.

I know a few people who brush their teeth in the shower, maybe that's the "something else" some people do?
I turn the water OFF, thank you very much. =D
And not to start any religious controversy, but have you ever researched Unitarian/Universalist churches? Sounds like you might like it.

Wish I could have been there on Saturday. That's two in a row I've missed!

Tom brushes his teeth in the shower, which I think is kind of gross. I turn the water off (in the sink) when I brush my toofers. My 14 month old niece likes to brush hers sans water AND toothpaste, just because it tickles her lips. (:

I too wish I could have made it to Atomic Cowboy...I am really anxious to meet everyone.

Our household is still struggling with the 'religion' aspect of our home. We attend the High Ridge Church of Christ, I like it, it makes me feel at ease. We too enjoy a drink or two, have tatoo's and are just trying to do the 'right thing' and provide our children with a solid foundation.
High Ridge might be a bit too far for you guys to travel, but non-the-less I like it.

I second cyndy suggestion on the Unitarian religion. They pretty much accept everybody.

Great to hear you and Dave both had a blast.

Yes, it sounds like you need to get some more face paint heehee. Who would ahve thunk face paint could be the key to a sanity-saving shower?

I would recommend The Journey. They have 3 locations (one near Tower Grove, one off of Hanley Road and one in West County at Missouri Baptist U). They have a great philosophy and the pastor is fantastic!

Heh. I totally brush my teeth in the shower. Gross maybe, but it works for me.

Hey girl! I'm so bummed I missed the meet-up. Sounds like it was a good time.

Congrats to your niece!

We belong to Holy Infant but I don't think Catholicism is what you are looking for. I have several friends who belong to St. John's Lutheran and love it.

Try Christ Memorial Lutheran on South Lindbergh. That's my church. I'm certain most there are conservative, but tattoos and drinking certainly isn't an issue.

I guess it depends on if you are looking for something to reinforce your beliefs (or want you want God to be), or gives you something to believe in. There's a difference.

My hubby and I are a lot like you guys (liberal, like to have drinks here and there, don't buy into all of organized religion, but still believe, etc.) and we found a church we really like. It's probably not very close to you, but I'll email you the link to the church if you want so you can check it out. It's a Baptist church, so no drinking, though I'm sure most of the congregation does.
