100th post, 100 questions, and 100+ answers!

Many, many thanks to those of you who took pity on me, or who were scared of my threats (!) and submitted questions, and shame on those of you who kept coming by, but never left a question...... just kidding. I think I got them all, I did a lot of copy-pasting so if I left a question out, and it was unique, it was not intentional. I was really excited to see some new people!!

From Farrell:
1. What is your most embarrassing moment? Hmmm. One of my first solo performances (singing) was when I was a sophomore and when it came to my turn, my throat totally clinched up and what came out was not even close to what it should have been. Parents even giggled and snickered. It was bad. Luckily we had to perform that piece multiple times over and I was able to redeem myself to my director and peers. It was bad, bad, bad, though. I still very clearly remember the humiliation that I felt.

2-3. How did you and your husband meet, and what did you first think of him? I think the first time I met him was at a bar with mutual friends and I thought he was a nice guy but didn’t think much else. (that was Oct.) Saw him again in Dec. at a Christmas party with the same friends and he actually made a fool of himself, to the effect of “I bet my dad could beat up YOUR dad.” I was drunk and replied back, “Yeah, well my dad is dead.” He felt like a total ass. I was not exactly nice about it, but I was in my depression and drinking…not a good mix. We probably ran into each other a few more times, but again, never thought much about him. Then, I was on a float trip with a bunch of work people that next June. Guess who was there with our mutual friend? Dave. For some reason we just clicked that day, I don’t know if it was the sun, the beer, or what, but I pretty much floated in the water next to his canoe all day. I jumped off a cliff with him and he helped me swim back to shore, cause I was too tired (or drunk) to make it by myself. Conversation just flowed, all day. I didn’t want the day to end. I wanted to camp again that night, but my girlfriend that was with me refused so we headed home. The next week was the 4th of July and we all hooked up again, and long story short, Dave and I hung out the entire day and night and I was a trallop and took him home with me. He didn’t get the goods if you know what I mean, but we have been together ever since. He left to go out of town for work on July 5th and he actually called our mutual friend to get my number which he used and called me while he was out of town……what a good boy.

4. If you could have any talent in the world (that you don't already have), what would it be? I would LOVE to be able to play the piano.

5-6. If money and time were no objects, where in the world would be the first place you'd visit, and why? I would go back to Hawaii, and visit all the islands in a totally, from edge to edge, above and below. We went to Maui for our honeymoon and there were so many places we wanted to go and do and explore but we just didn’t have enough time or $$ to do it all.

From Krissy:
7. What is your favorite designer? Interior designer? Probably a toss up between Vern Yip and Laurie Smith. I don’t think that I have ever seen a room that they have done that I didn’t like.

8. What are your biggest pet peeves? Whining, drivers in the fast lane going slooooooow, self-entitlement, people who always bring the conversation back around to them no matter what you are talking about every. single. time.

9. What are your biggest worries/stresses? That something is going to happen to me, and my husband isn’t going to remember how to do the banking (everything is online, we don’t get any bills in the mail), or remember who the kids’ Dr. and dentist are and of course then that my children will forget me since they are so young. Day to day worries, we both feel very comfortable and confident that our jobs will always be here as long as we continue to be the good employees that we are, however; you just never know.

10. What is the one thing you like best about yourself? I’m a very loyal friend.

11. Do what is your favorite alcoholic drink? Pomegranate Martinis if I’m in a foo foo mood, but give me a good ‘ole bud light or hefeweizen with lemon any day.

From Go Mommy:
12. Do you run your own lab? Ha, ha, ha. Good grief no. I don’t want to get too specific here, but there are 4 of us in my group, but my “BIG” PI is actually at Cal-Tech and we are part of a large collaboration of several labs including (my group) Cal-Tech, a group from Cold Spring Harbor Lab and another group from England.

13-14. Who is your best friend, and why? Well all around it would be my husband, but female wise is would be my friend Amy, because she is the most supportive, non-judgemental, trusting person I know. She darn near knows just about everything about me, and if she doesn’t know something, it’s because it hasn’t come up. I know I can talk to her about anything and she will give it to me straight, and not just tell me what she thinks I want to hear. I thank God we were pregnant for the first (and 2nd) time together at work when no one else was or we probably would never have become friends in the first place!

15. If you could date a celebrity, who would it be? I don’t know about date….since I don’t know them, but I know who I have the hots for! Josh Holloway and Matt Damon

16. If you could have any career, what would it be? Back in the day, I could really, really sing. Not quite opera caliber, but close. Many years of cheerleading, and various choral groups among which one was a touring one my senior year of highschool, followed by a very demanding choral group (where we performed Carmina Burana) in college, my voice gave out. I developed nodules (or cysts) on my vocal chords and now all I am good for is singing to my children, and sing alongs in the car. I would have loved to teach vocals, or to do back up in some professional manner.

17-18. What's your favorite song? Why? Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. It has many meanings for me…..One of my first serious boyfriends that really “got” me was really into Pink Floyd, just as much as I was, and one day after we didn’t get to see each other over the weekend he wrote down the lyrics in a note so for the longest time whenever I heard that song I always thought of him. We also played it at my dad’s funeral.

From Raquita:
19. What most annoys you about humanity? Lordy. Our inability (as societies) to learn from past mistakes in the way we treat others. I could go on and on…..

20. What’s your least favorite thing to admit about yourself? I do what my husband calls “jumping”. I will interrupt him to finish what he is saying or pre-empt what I think he is talking about when I should just be quiet and listen. When he is working on projects around the house, my eye and mouth are critical first and complimentary second. I have REALLY been working on this one.

21. What were the names for your children you really like but got veto'd on? There was no discussion concerning Jacob’s name since it was the only name that sounded good with my dad’s name (which is his middle name) and I won with Olivia’s name. Dave wanted to call her Marley in honor of Bob Marley. While I love Bob Marley, I was set on Olivia. I said the next dog we got could be Marley.

22. Favorite nursery rhyme? Itsy Bitsy Spider

23. Least favorite place on earth? Anywhere that I can’t get warm. Or cool for that matter!

24. Have you ever eaten a crayon? No.

25. Where were you three hours ago? Work

26. Do you wash your car or let a car wash do it? In the winter a car wash does it. In the summer we wash the cars together in the driveway.

27. Worst injury you ever had? I have never broken a bone (knock on wood), I had a few stitches in my chin in 3rd grade from swinging between two desks and then I fell on the concrete floor and cracked my chin open, but honestly the worst, injury (work-comp paid for it!) was my bi-lateral carpal tunnel surgery that I had almost two years ago. I still have issues and permanent damage since I let it go so long.

28. What is your secret weapon for luring the opposite sex? My breasts were before I had my reduction, and now (two children later) that they are sad little prune sacks, so it would have to be my charming personality! ☺ Of course I haven’t even thought about luring the opposite sex in a very long time!

29. Where you on honor roll in highschool? Yes, I averaged 3.8-4.0!

30. Favorite cologne? Eternity, Chrome

31. Do you tan? No, have you seen my pasty white skin? ☺

32. Do you collect anything? Turtles! Not live ones, but glass, ceramic, hand carved wood, etc. They have to be unique.

33. Do you prefer to drink from a straw or the glass? Straw for soda, mug for hot tea and beer, glass for martinis.

From Laura:
Of your 100 posts:
34. Which one are you most proud of? The Kill Joy was my first introspective post on my less than perfect parenting, I think it was the first post where I started to open up a bit on who I really am.

35. Which was the hardest to write? Cutting theTies that Bind

36. Is there anything you will not blog about? Probably the specifics of my marriage if it ever hits rocky times…I don’t know, then I would need your alls support more than ever. My sex life? You don't want to hear details about that anyway.

37. What got you started on the whole blogging thing? I got tired of being a lurker, and feeling like I knew certain bloggers so well, but had nothing to offer back to them. Three of my favorite bloggers lived close to me and I wanted to be included in the blogger gatherings and meet them in person!

38. What song do you know all the words to, but would never admit to??? I can’t think of any song that I would be embarrassed to admit to knowing all the words to….maybe Ice Ice baby? ☺

From STLBee69:
39. Do you believe in the paranormal? Totally!

40. If you won the lottery, would you quit your job? It depends on how much, just a few million, probably not. I would go part-time for sure! If it was a big jackpot, heck yeah! But I would do volunteer work for sure.

41. If you found out you had 24-hours to live, could you say you are honestly happy with your life at this point? 85% yes. I love my husband, my children, and my work. I would just wish that I had slowed down a bit more and taken the time to cherish it all and soak it all in just a bit more. I really do try to not take what I have for granted, but life gets busy…..

42. If there was a say anything you want for a day free day, would you take advantage of it and who would you tell off? I typically speak my mind, so there isn’t a whole lot left unsaid in my world, and what is left unsaid is better left that way.

43. Do you know what's going on with Kristie (slackermommy)? I think she shut her blog down. I'm worried about her. She did switch over to wordpress so if you use google reader you need to re-subscribe. I talked to her yesterday (Weds.) and she has been sick for close to 3 weeks, and in a funk with a bunch of other stuff going on. She says she feels better now and is on her way to getting back in the swing of things!

From Beth: Hi! Welcome!!
44. Favorite vacation spot? Back in my younger days anywhere I could go with public transportation, my backpack and my hubby to keep me sane. ie. all over Europe. Now, I just want a beach and sun.

45. Favorite sport to watch? Football!!!!!

46-47. Dogs or cats? why? Dogs! I have two big doggy babies, because I’m really allergic to cats. I do like them though.

From Michelle:
48. Are you left or right handed? I’m a lefty.

49. Favorite sport to play? Volleyball, despite the fact that I am vertically challenged.

50. Coffee or soda? Both!

51. Ice Cream and/or cake? I will take ice cream over cake any day.

52. Have you ever been to Psychic? No, but I totally would go to that dude that
was on TLC…..I’ll have to see if I can find his name.

53. Do you want more children? I always had it in my mind that I wanted 3 children, but then I had Olivia. ☺ Just kidding, sorta. I just don’t think that I would be a good mom to 3 children. I’m not sure that I could go through the sleepless nights again, go through the 3’s again, and honestly, Dave and I would like to be able to go out and have a life as a couple again sometime soon. BUT, he is not “fixed” and if there was an accident (although very unlikely since we double up on the birth control) it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

From Kim:
54. What was your favorite birthday celebration and why? I’ve always kind-of gotten the short end of the stick on my birthday. It is 5 days before Christmas, growing up I never got to have a party, and in college I was always home for break so I couldn’t celebrate with my friends and since being married, someone has always been sick. See this post. This year was actually pretty good, but not WOW! I’m hoping my 35th, next year, will be a great one!! Let’s all go out. Put it on your calendars now.

55-56. If you could go back in time and be present as a witness on a day in history, when and why? July 16, 1969. The first trip to the moon. I think it would have just been an amazing time to be glued to the tv watching and hearing what was going on.

57. What is your ultimate escape? On a beach, soaking up the sun, reading a good book/taking a nap.

58-59. If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would it be and why? While I’m thinking about space travel, I think I would want to trade places with an astronaut, who is already out in space. I would love to be able to experience and see what it is like out there.

60. Do you believe there is life on other planets? Yes, I think it would be very egotistical of us to think we are the only life forms out there.

61. Would you rather be invisible or fly? Invisible

62. Ever been skinny dipping? Honestly no, I’ve been around where everyone else was, but I have never been secure enough in my own body to just go for it.

63. What is your oddest talent? I can curl my fingers upward, I *think* more than the average person.

64. If someone gave you $500 to spend with the only restriction that you had to be completely selfish, what would you do buy? I got that amount as a bonus for my 10 year anniversary at work and I still haven’t spent it, because I can’t decide. Normally I would say a massage, and the like, but I got two gc for my birthday. I’m contemplating splurging on a really nice purse, Coach or something like that, because I would normally NEVER get something like that for myself. I also wouldn’t mind getting some nice real diamond earrings, but I seem to lose the real stuff….

65. Are you organized or messy? Does organized chaos count? I do have multiple “junk” drawers. I know where everything is and things are put away, although a true neat freak would say that my pantry and linen closet are NOT organized. My house is always picked up, but not necessarily clean….if that makes sense. We usually have people over at least once a month if not more so that it forces me to really clean the bathrooms and dust. I do vacuum multiple times a week because the dog hair drives me nuts.

66. Do you work well under stress? I actually do better when there is a deadline. I once cranked out a 30 page term paper in under 2 days that I got an A on. I knew about it for 3 months.

67. Do you have a phobia? I’m really scared of spiders. Very scared of them. Also, I would rather be very high up, or low to the ground. If I know that there is potential that I am going to fall and just hurt myself badly, that is when I am scared of heights.

68. Do you believe in fate? Yes, I do believe things happen for a reason. Whether that is fate, or God’s will, or the moon and stars aligning. (or whatever you believe in) I don’t necessarily believe in coincidence.

69. Do you like to camp out? If the conditions are right, (70-80) I don’t have to pee in the woods, and I have lots of friends around me and an air mattress, sure! Yes, I am a high maintenance camper, but at least I do it!

70. Would you rather be hot or cold? Neither? But I figure if I am cold, I can always put on blankets and sweaters to get warm. If that is not an option? Hot.

71. What's the first website you visit when you log on? I log into my work email first thing since have to be available almost 24/7 to answer questions. Followed immediately by my google reader to see if any of you have posted!

72. Are you tired of winter? Oh my gosh yes!!! I am soooo counting down the time until spring/summer so we can be outside playing and going to the pool every day!!!

From Huckdoll:
73. What do you think is the most important world issue at this time? ie. global warming, poverty, etc. I am just so sick and sad about all the war going on in the world. Not just the mess over in the middle east but what continues to happen all over. Darfur, Kenya, the oppression in Cuba, North Korea, unfortunately I could go on and on couldn't I?

74-75. If you had half a million dollar to give to one charity, what would it be and why? Right now I would want to give it to the Histio Society. My neighbor's infant son has HLH, and is still fighting for his life. I blogged about it here and here.....this disease is what is considered an "orphan" disease, meaning it affects too few people to generate government funded research.

76-77. What is the one part of your body that you love? I really like my eyes. They fluctuate between green, hazel and sometimes brown depending on the season and what I am wearing.

78. Your favorite physical feature in man? Nice strong defined forearms. hmmmm.

Maeve’s Mom:
79. Favorite holiday? Christmas, especially now that we have kids.

80. TP over or under (and does the opposite drive you nuts)?
Under, and yes I generally will change it, (only at my own house) if it put on the other way.

81-82. Your favorite thing about Jake and Olivia (technically 2 questions).
Jake is generally so easy going and as you know, he ALWAYS has a smile on his face, it just lights up the room. Olivia's giggle is the best sound I have ever heard. You put Jake's smile with Olivia's giggle and even I can't stay in a bad mood.

83. Dumbest piece of assvice you got when your kids were babies?
To not hold them so much, that it would spoil them. Whatevah!

From Michelle again!
84. Do you believe in love at first sight? Lust, yes. Love no. See questions #2-3!

85. Do you believe in god? Yes.

86. Favorite piece of clothing? In the winter, anything fleece. In the summer, I love my long cargo shorts.

87. If you had to lose one of your senses (eyes, nose, ears, fingers, tongue,) which one would it be? Sight, hearing and touch, no way. Smell and taste are so inter-twined, if you lose your sense of smell you will lose your sense of taste along with it. So, I guess my sense of taste. Just hook me up to a food tube now.

88. Do you prefer gold, silver, platinum? Silver or platinum toned. None of my jewelry that I wear on a daily basis is yellow gold.

89. Would you rather have love or money? Love, without a doubt.

90. Favorite number? 4

From Natalie:
91. If you could choose your children's career path (knowing they would be happy with what you chose) what would it be? Hmmm, probably something in the science or medical field. Perhaps both? I would want them to be able to have job and financial security no matter what, and be able to do good for humanity by research or healing or both.

92. Do you think global warming is real? I KNOW it is real. I'm a scientist.

From Mighty Morphin' Mama:
93. What do you not want us to know about you? Well, if I told you, then that means I wouldn't mind you knowing now wouldn't it? :)

94. What is it about you that you wish everyone knew and understood? I speak before I think sometimes and what comes out of my mouth may not always make sense, or come out in the nicest manner, but I'm not an airhead and most likely I didn't mean to say anything mean towards anyone.

From Jaelithe:
95. Can't believe no one has asked you what your favorite color is. Purple

96. Also, boxers or briefs? (Not which you prefer on YOU, but which you prefer on your husband. Heh.) Boxer Briefs!

97. Did you have an imaginary friend when you were little? Not really, I played a lot with barbies and just lost myself in books.

98. When was your first kiss? New Year's eve of 7th grade. was my first french kiss and it was on a dare, playing truth or dare. Aww, how romantic, I know.

99. Out of all the pets you've had, which one was your favorite, and why?
Probably my siamese cat growing up. I got to pick her out from the litter at my grandparents' house, and she slept with me and was with me all the time from late elementary till 8th grade when she got hit by a car. She was also the last cat I could have, because after her, we got a dog, and I could no longer tolerate even being near them.

From MamaB:
100.What is the most romantic thing your husband has done for you? Back before we were even married, I had been working a second job, initially to pay off all debt, then to pay for our wedding. One night when I got home from the second job, there he was standing in his boxers, all the lights were off and candles were lit all over the house and rose petals were EVERYWHERE. I can't tell you anymore. Sadly, I would probably laugh if he did something like that now. My idea of romance is when he does the laundry and empties the dishwasher, and lets me sleep past 6:30 a.m. on the weekend, which he does do without me even asking. Now that is romantic!

**BONUS QUESTIONS**
Where did you go to High School? Are you from Saint Louis? That is a very Saint Louis question, which if you are not familiar, is a very loaded one. From what I gather, it differentiates public from private and quickly lets people know where you grew up and how much $$ your parents had. I'm not from here...... I went to Raytown South High School.

What is your favorite T.V. show? Oh, I have so many, but The Office is just about the funniest show out there.

The cutest thing your son or daughter has done for you? They always make their cards fto me for birthday, mother's day etc. and both of them make up songs to teach me so that I can sing their songs to them at bedtime.

What is your most favorite activity to do with your kids together or individually? I really love our talks at the end of everyday when they are all snuggled in their beds. We talk about what they did at school (the days I go in to work) or we re-hash the good and bad parts of our day together and what we need to work on doing better and all the things that we are doing great at. It's a nice end to the day, and gives me a chance to apologize if hollered too much or wasn't patient enough with them, which often leads them to reflect on their own behavior as well.

Do you prefer a mountain vacation or a beach vacation? I do love to ski, but I prefer a beach vacation.

Leave it to Huckdoll to get deep. Shame on me for lurking and not thinking of any good questions. I did not know you were a lefty...that explains a lot!:) You are so right about the High School question. I should know since my brother went to John Burroughs and I got public school...oops, I mean go Raytown South Cards!

I did grow up in St. Louis and went to Mizzou for my B.S and M.S in meteorology. So I thought it was a question that had to be asked!! Isn't Raytown in the K.C. area? My Mom went to Van Horn. Anyway I really enjoy your blog and identify alot with what you write. I am going to steal your parenting tip about discussing the day and what each of us has done right and wrong with my daughter. Of course it will help when she can answer back! Thanks for answering all those questions!

As I was reading your answers I started thinking that you and I are a lot alike. And then I remembered that I would never take the time to answer 100 questions. I am very impressed with this endeavor. Great job, and congrats on 100 posts!

Okay, back to add a few things.

First and foremost I was truly hoping you would say YES to my Global Warming question. It drives me nuts when people try to deny it. Knowing your science background I didn't really think you would say no.

51. You obviously haven't tried MY cake. Might have to send you some. Mwahaha.

60. I believe in life on other planets, too. It may be a one in a million chance, but there are more than a million worlds out there. I would love to see it proven in my lifetime though that's unlikely.

This was really a great post, much better than the typical 100 things!
